Day 3: Santa Fe & Hwy 60
After having breakfast with a friend who relocated to Albuquerque, we headed north to Santa Fe. We took a more scenic route, thru the city of Madrid, which is where some of the movie "Wild Hogs" was filmed. We set our sights on going to the Governor's Plaza. The plaza was packed full of tourists & vendors selling their jewelry & art. We visited The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. The statue of Our Lady was brought to the NM territory in 1626 from Spain. They say it's the oldest statue of Our Lady in the country. We then drove south to Highway 60 where there was lots of road. Lots of straight road. We drove past VLA (Very Large Array), a radio astronomy observatory, which is where they listen for martians. The landscape out there was so vast, that we had to stop & soak it in. Check out the video we took (#72 & 76 out of 92.) We finally made our way to the Arizona state line, but not without getting spooked in Quemada, NM.
